Good action story which I enjoyed reading. I feel it is not as good as the previous parts, mostly because the ending felt a bit disjointed Nice tension building towards facing big bad monster and then we have a few chapters on what is basically cleanup with nothing supernatural. John Van Stry could have done more with the angle of scientists and the supernatural. I also wonder a bit how this could happen in the first place (top secret stuff, but leave the cleanup to a normal company?), but lets stick that to people having been distracted at the time.We do get to see a bit more of the family, and I like it when the protagonist is a family man with living parents and siblings who still speak with one another. Of course, you should not pay too much attention to how the supernatural is kept secret with things like this happening, but that is a common problem in urban fantasy and not overly important in an action orientated novel.
All in all, I found it an entertaining read.

Good follow up in the series. Fast even pacing will pull you in and won't let go until you finish.
Just a little simplistic in problem solving but i liked it. 3rd in this series so I would start with the Hammer Commision first.
This series has an unique viewpoint for an urban fantasy. The issues of good & evil, human vice monsters are handled with care and deep thought. Please write some more, these are a fun read.
I happened upon this series and was not sure about it but after reading the first one and reading it cover to cover, I could not wait for the next one. Great story line .
Decent family development and plot. Writing is good, and there is character development and progress. I didnt like that the were family is growing so much, but I guess it makes logical sense...I just dont like the mc not being at all unique now i guess. Still a good book for sure.
Another good book in the series. Some very interesting family interaction, with some results you could see coming. I am a bit surprised that there were no foreign visitors heading back to Portland at the end of the book.
A few spelling errors and a couple of missed letters/words but an excellent book overall.
Confession first, the author has other books that did not appeal to my choice in genre so I was skeptical buying into this series. Trust me, I was very prepared to dislike it.
But frankly the Hammer series is a wonderful and creative series of adventures that are certainly NOT formula pulp. The author deserves at least a try from any true sci fi fan looking for unique books to read and I am confident you won't regret spending the few dollars to sample his work. Oh, and please consider the spin of King of Vegas book, it too makes a fine addition to the series
